Learning to Dance in the Rain

It has been said that everyone is either getting ready to enter a storm, in the midst of a storm or just getting out of a storm. When stormy weather comes your way in life in the form of various trials or even temptations, how are you weathering the storm? Is it difficult? Are you learning something new? Is it driving you to your knees in prayer before Almighty God? I love the quote “Blessed be the storm that blows me into the harbor of the Lord.” It reminds me that we are constantly learning how to grow in our faith in Christ. Growing in wisdom is recognizing a storm and bringing your prayer requests directly to God instead of trying to figure it out on your own. The harbor of the Lord is a great place to be when the storm of life comes blowing.

I can remember as a child always enjoying being in the rain. From jumping in the puddles to opening my mouth and tasting the cold rain drops, God’s creation is something to be enjoyed and appreciated. Are you ready for the raindrops in your life? I’m not talking about grabbing an umbrella so you don’t get wet. I mean the raindrops of life. Do you recognize it as a chance to grow? What would happen if we not only welcomed the rain but learned to dance in it? I’m full of quotes today so here goes another one I enjoy. “Life is not about avoiding the storms of life but learning to dance in the rain.”

What exactly does dancing in the rain look like when we apply it to dealing with difficult circumstances? I think more of a spiritual dance than a physical one. Watching God work in our life through circumstances is a great reason for our spirit to rejoice. Next time you are at your wits end, I encourage you to reflect on Psalm 107:28-30 that says “Then they cry out to the Lord in their trouble, and he brings them out of their distresses. He calms the storm, so that its waves are still. Then they are glad because they are quiet; so he guides them to their desired haven.”

Our Creator knows us all too well. He knows exactly what you are thinking right now. I really believe he wants to guide each of us to our desired haven when we are being obedient to His perfect Word. Regardless of the storms that pass us by, let us not forget nothing can separate us from His perfect love. Romans 8:38-39 says “For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” That is reason enough to dance in the rain.
